Old Perithia

Having been built on the slope of Mt. Pantokratoras, the so-called ghost-village of Old Perithia boasts lush vegetation, peaceful environment and significant history, since it was the place where Corfiots resorted to during pirate attacks in the past. The mass tourism emerging on the island of Corfu resulted in the complete desertion of this village. Since 2010 some restoration projects have been done in Old Perithia and thus this village began to gain again the attention of Corfiots and tourists. While you are there, do not miss the chance to stroll about, among the historic churches around the village and admire the impressive red bell-tower of St. Jacob (Iakovos) the Persian.
